Eye and Vision Exams

Eye Exam

At Silicon Valley Eyecare Optometry and Contact Lenses, we strive to provide comprehensive, primary eye care for the whole family. Preventative and routine eye exams are important to maintaining good eye health and visual function. Often, eye and vision problems do not have obvious symptoms or signs, but are easily diagnosed by a licensed optometrist. By diagnosing eye and vision conditions early on, our optometrists are able provide treatment options and in many cases restore or prevent vision loss. The American Optometric Association recommends yearly eye and vision exams, regardless of whether you are at-risk or not.

What to Expect at Your Comprehensive Eye Exam:

During your eye exam, our doctors will ask you questions about any symptoms or issues you are experiencing, medications you are currently taking, any blurry vision, your work environment, and your overall health. Family history and previous eye or vision conditions will also be discussed. Our doctors will consider this information when determining any treatments or recommendations.

Visual Analysis:

The doctor will perform a spectacle refraction to detect your refractive error (otherwise known as your glasses prescription), and determine whether you have near-sightedness (myopia), far-sightedness (hyperopia), astigmatism, and / or presbyopia. If you are interested in laser eye surgery or contact lenses, this can be discussed based on the doctor's findings.

Internal and External Ocular Health Assessments:

This will include a visual field test, glaucoma screening, cataract detection, and full eye health examination, including retinal examination, to examine you for ocular disease and general health issues (such as hypertension and diabetes) that can affect the eyes. Should we detect any problems, our doctors are all therapeutically licensed optometrists who are trained to diagnose, manage, and treat many ocular diseases including glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and cataracts.

Binocular Vision Analysis:

The doctor will check your eye muscles and their coordination for the diagnosis and treatment of strabismus (eye turn), amblyopia (lazy eye), and focusing problems. With the increased usage of digital devices, it is becoming very common for people of all ages to suffer from headaches, eyestrain, and blurred vision. Our knowledgeable doctors will be able to recommend techniques and devices to reduce these symptoms so that you are able to comfortably function on your digital devices.
